Mamadou Koïta & Balafola - Terry

Mamadou Koïta’s album Terry (friendship in Malinké) is a bold fusion of African sounds and contemporary rhythms. Mamadou’s bewitching balafon and powerful voice create a rich musical experience, harmoniously blending Afrobeat and tradition. Calibrated to make souls dance, Terry seamlessly fuses traditional and modern trends. The lyrics deal with universal themes such as love, peace and unity. It’s a modern musical masterpiece that pushes boundaries and takes listeners on a captivating sonic journey. The project features 12 original songs, all written and performed by the artist from the country of upright men, Burkina Faso. The album is an ode to Mamadou’s African roots, but also a blend of his musical experiences. The artist offers a captivating universe where afro-fusion blends rhythmic melodies and poetic lyrics to create an unforgettable experience.

BIOGRAPHY

Born in 1980 in Ouagadougou, the country’s capital, he developed a passion for this art form from an early age. Born into a family of griots, he was introduced to traditional Mandingo music at a very early age, and demonstrated an exceptional interest, talent and mastery of the art of the balafon, an emblematic West African percussion instrument (a wooden xylophone), as well as the ngoni (an African guitar similar to the harp).

Balafola has travelled the world to share his music and his art. He has taken part in numerous international festivals and collaborated with renowned artists such as Amity Méria, Sékouba Bambino and Mamadi Keita, as well as accompanying the Barr Brothers at the Montreal Jazz Festival. He has also performed on numerous occasions at the Festival International Nuits d’Afrique.

In addition to his work as an artist, Mamadou is also a fervent advocate of arts education. He regularly organises workshops and lectures in schools and local communities, sharing his knowledge and inspiring budding young artists.
