Recorded in Burkina Faso, La Route, the 12th album by Dicko Fils, features 8 previously unreleased tracks composed by the artist before he moved to Montreal last year. The album celebrates the artist’s 20 year career and embraces modernity by riding the Afrobeats wave, while keeping the ancestral tradition of the Ngoni at the forefront.
Dicko Fils is a star in his own country, with hundreds of thousands of followers on social networks.As a musician and griot, he is well-known and respected.He is also the founder of Jaango, an association working for the education and schooling of young girls and fighting against excision and forced marriages. La Route is the artist’s first project to be officially released since moving to Quebec.
This new opus is a celebration of life and death, a call to live together and to respect each other, to accept the differences that are the foundation of our humanity.The title Cohésion sociale evokes the current security crisis in Burkina, Adunaaru celebrates world citizens who break free of borders, and Ethnie is a tribute to the Peules of the world.
Award-winning songwriter Dicko Fils will be presenting La Route at a special concert on 8 March at Club Balattou in Montreal.
