Valérie Ékoumè

VALÉRIE EKOUMÉ

Her latest album, Moné, is “an exhilarating record whose lively musicality need not detract from its purpose” (RFI Musique, 2022). Valérie Ekoumé, who was born into an eclectic musical universe where Cameroonian music, jazz, R&B, Miriam Makeba and Whitney Houston might be heard in succession on the stereo, and has already collaborated with such greats as Manu Dibango, Youssou Ndour, MC Solaar and Maceo Parker, has also made her mark with an unabashed Afropop that combines rumba, makossa, bikutsi and esséwé: a danceable fusion, with which the artist proudly embraces her identity and stands against inequalities!
