SOPHIE LUKACS
SOPHIE LUKACS
Voix du Monde Series, presented by TV5
Creating a perfect yet unlikely marriage between Canadian-Hungarian folk influences and popular Mandinka rhythms, Sophie Lukacs writes and sings ballads in English, French, Hungarian and Bambara, to merge these spatiotemporal universes. Relying on her mastery of the enchanting 21-stringed kora (an instrument she fell in love with after years of playing the violin), which she gained under the tutelage of master kora player, Toumani Diabaté, she is able to create music that is purely magical. In 2022, she won Télé-Québec’s Prix Coup de Coeur in the MUZ | Vision Diversité competition and, in 2023, under the Disques Nuits d’Afrique label, released her debut album, Bamako, which includes two tracks featuring Habib Koité.
