SARAMBA KOUYATE
SARAMBA KOUYATE
Born in Kouroula in the region of Kita in Mali, Saramba Kouyaté is the descendant of a long line of griots: The Kouyate.
Saramba Kouyate has been singing since she was a child with her mother Djenetenin Kouyate and continued her apprenticeship in the art of griotry with the great lyricist Kelemonzon Diabate. She was also a member of the mythical group Mandekalou, which included Sekouba Bambino and Kandia Kouyate.
She was recognized in the whole region of Kita as one of the most beautiful voices of her generation.
She launched her first album “56”, produced by Goro Daou in 2004, which launched her career as an artist. Four other albums were released following this first one.
She is considered nowadays as a ngara, titles given to the great singers, being part of the upper class of griotism.
Her mastery of Mandingo history and traditional songs make her one of the great pillars of the guardians of Mandingo culture.
