OMAR MBAYE

OMAR MBAYE

Dakar’s dynamic music scene and the Senegalese cool dancehall vibe are no secret. And Omar Mbaye’s shows certainly don’t disappoint. Newly established in Montreal, this Wolof singer and guitarist, inspired by an eclectic array of artists, from Youssou N’Dour and Ismaël Lô to Coldplay or Bruno Mars, has developed his own style of music, which he calls Rambax, that combines mbalax, pop, hip-hop, reggae and folk, to create a sound that reflects his personality—curious, genuine, generous— and is a perfect match for his voice as he sings about causes that are close to his heart, like education and the protection of children.
