MI’GMAFRICA

The story behind  Mi’gmafrica, is one of friendship between two allies born on opposite sides of the world, whose similarities have become more pronounced over the years than their differences” (Radio-Canada, 2023). United by their deep attachment to their respective cultures and to all the wisdom that their lands hold, Valérie Ivy Hamelin, multidisciplinary artist from the Mi’gmaq Gespeg First Nation, and Sadio Sissokho, Senegalese griot based in Montreal, combine their voices in Miꞌkmawiꞌsimk, Mandinka, Wolof, French and English, accompanied by the pure sounds of the kora and hand drum. In 2023, they released their album, À la mémoire de nos ancêtres.
