LES AUNTIES

LES AUNTIES

“They say they’ve had enough!” (TV5 Monde, 2023). “Afrofuturistic and feminist,” this group of nine militant and committed aunties, produced by renowned AfrotroniX, beat on calabashes and even drum pads to denounce prevailing taboos. They are determined to tour the world, not only to spread their traditional, polyrhythmic Sara music, which is given a new twist without losing any of its original spirit, but also—and above all—to boost the effectiveness of the fight they are waging, driven by their personal experiences, to empower women in a very patriarchal society.
