“The Congo-Québec music scene still has some pop treasures to offer us.” That’s how Le Devoir qualified Kizaba’s album, Kizavibe (2022), which earned him a Juno nomination. A singer, drummer & percussionist, producer, and the 2024-2025 Révélation Radio-Canada en musique du monde, Lionel Kizaba produces a balanced blend of soukous, house, Afrobeat and Afro-punk rhythms with the aim of getting people up and dancing! In keeping with the Afrofuturism trend, songs are sung in French, Lingala, English and Kikongo as traditional drums and masks merge with techno, all delivered with the utmost class, reflecting the now famous SAPE culture, i.e. la Société des ambianceurs et des personnes élégantes (literally, “The Society of Ambiance-Makers and Elegant People”).
