JAH OBSERVER INVITED BY WORLDWILD SOUNDSYSTEM

Nuits d’Afrique Sound System Series, presented by CISM

The concept is on the way to becoming a Festival tradition. Last year, WWSS welcomed Iration Steppas; this year it  will feature another British Sound System legend, Jah Observer, for a 12kW+ run, promising to let loose a sensational vibe.

It would be hard to be more enthusiastic than the guys who launched WWSS! For almost fifteen years, they have been perfecting their sound system in the purest of Jamaican traditions. Homemade speakers, analogue equipment, dub sirens and other sound effects, vinyl records, MCs: it all comes together to create a truly authentic experience. But what makes them really stand out are their bass-enhanced mixes that combine African and Caribbean musical nuggets with rare reggae and dub recordings. For the longest time, Jah Observer was a mainstay at London’s now-famous Notting Hill Carnival, which was launched by the Caribbean community in the 1960s as a peaceful response to ongoing racial tensions.

Jah Observer Sound System, founded in 1973 by Spiderman, has become legendary and it still epitomizes the Carnival’s spirit and warmth, fostering social conscience and peace. Now back in Jamaica and celebrating 50 years in the music business, Jah Observer continues to be a bastion of sound system culture, spinning 45s that hark back to the roots of reggae.
