BIOGRAPHY

Are you familiar with the Afro-electro dance music produced by Marseillais mates, Anass Zine, Arthur Peneau and Didier Simione aka Did Myosine? Then you’ll know that this cool trio has what it takes to draw crowds into their steely net! Zar Electrik goes beyond a fusion between African melodies and electronic sound by setting the table for a feast that takes us even further into the experience. Since 2019, the three friends have become the envoys of an ocean liner sailing from the shores of Marseille, to the furthest reaches of Africa, then on to the Iberian Peninsula, followed by a trip down towards the steamy Orient. Nothing less than an odyssey to be experienced with eyes closed and heart open to the myriad of motifs.

The electric kora is allowed to run free while the oud interweaves with the pulse of modern percussive rhythms, a delight to be savoured. The soaring strings take command of the band’s expressive space. Such virtuosity honouring instruments is a divine gift, like that of a certain Hendrix. No kidding! When Anass and Arthur cross swords, a kind of magic happens in a spirit of camaraderie that’s a sight to behold…

If you haven’t already, be sure to check out Hawa, their first album under the band name Zar Electrik. Its six tracks are real gems characterized by vocal expansiveness. Subtlety of strings, frantic rhythm of electronic percussion and sublime chords, so brilliant it will blow you away! Sail the seas, brave the deserts on camelback and make a pit stop at Zar Electrik. Never before in this century has such electrification achieved this degree of sonic perfection. To hear it for yourselves, look no further than “Ntiya,” a Marseilles song about the diversity of its peoples. A recipe for a mind-blowing party that could well turn into a rave on stage… Passcode: Music without labels or borders.
