Chaabi music fans have the chance to experience this infinite Algerian melodic current and Youba Adjrad live on stage! Like Obélix, Youba clearly fell into a magical potion, but a musical one. And, like his father before him, he cooks up chants and songs, but in his own way. Drawing from Andalusi-Arabic traditions, he integrates the vocality and sensitivity of this music dedicated to his people. His talent has earned him a strong presence on the radio, allowing him to reach the heights of Algerian “Super Star” in 2012. And his lucky star has stayed with him as he is ranked in the Arab world as having one of the most beautiful voices, no less!

Attracted to the allure of social media, the singer has been making a name for himself through his music videos since 2014. You only have to listen to his songs, like Karamti, Hkayti Maak or Karamti Ma Tesmahlich, to understand that his universe is steeped in the graceful, soaring vocals so characteristic of chaabi. Since teaming up with percussionist Youcef Grim, this has grown into a wider world-music style. A darling of the Montreal scene, Youba’s horizons are continually expanding through his collaborations with other artists. And it is from Montreal that inspirations from across Europe and Africa take root and blossom to become a soft oriental bouquet with a subtle accent of flamenco and Kabyle rhythms.
