BIOGRAPHY
This group from Bologna has been described as the “perfect dose for a post-carnivalesque effect.” Rachel, Jack, Ale, Mettiu and their collective have developed a particularly addictive style of electronic dance music, a mix of ska, Afrobeat and funk with Latin and swing influences. The title of their irresistible hit “Freaky Funky,” from their 2018 album, describes this band and its rich repertoire to a T. For Rumba de Bodas, who has been touring cabaret-style shows across Europe since 2008, free-spirted exuberance is simply a way of life. So, prepare yourselves for an explosive experience from a band that is as familiar with packed venues as they are with Italy’s backstreet watering holes…
In 2023, with already three albums to their name, this powerhouse of lively rhythms released Yen Ko (“Let’s go” in a Ghana’s Akan language), which contains eight tracts steeped in African melodies and cultural references. While the tunes are super catchy, the messages they convey are no less meaningful: care for Mother Earth (“Todo Mundo”, migratory Mediterranean exodus and modern solitude, “Isole“). Full of optimism, the group invites us to adopt a positive outlook and to take up the cause, with eyes wide open, turned towards others. Like their song “High Life,” reminiscent of Fela Kuti’s legacy and set against an electronic backdrop, the group provides an open passport to good vibes.
Firmly rooted in the urban music world scene, from the street to back alleys where dreams and alliances are born, this band of six musicians has already won over the hearts of festivalgoers everywhere—at jazz festivals from Montreux to Edinburg, not to mention others such as the Fusion Festival and Ireland Party. Appearing for the first time at Festival International Nuits d’Afrique, their show promises an extravagant celebration of boundless energy, a fantastic party event to be enjoy with others.
