A Montrealer for nearly 15 years, Colombian multi-instrumentalist Ramon Chicharron advocates the sincere blending of genres and identities as well as the erasing of borders. With his sensitive and committed pen, his catchy melodies and his Latin and Caribbean influenced rhythms, Ramon’s music is a real invitation to travel. His third album, “Pescador de sueños”, represents the mixture of identities, and the contrast between urban and nature, tradition and modernism, dream and reality. “Good for the ears that this record of perfectly Montreal grooves, amalgam of cumbia, champeta, salsaton and latino rap” (Le Devoir, 2020).
Ramon Chicharron returns in spring 2022 with his new album “Destello de estrellas”. A mix of electro-tropical sounds, Congolese soukous-inspired guitars, and Latin and Caribbean rhythms, “Destello de estrellas” is an entry into Ramon’s universe through 12 songs that are inspired by love, the desire to surrender to destiny, and the connection with nature.
Ramon has built a loyal public over the years, first with a weekly show every Sunday for over 5 years in the now former small venue l’Escalier, then gaining notoriety on the Montreal and Quebec scene with the release of three albums (Uepaje, Merecumbé, Pescador de sueños), and over 100 shows across Canada.
Among the awards and nominations received by Ramon Chicharron are the Diversity in Music Award given by the Montreal Arts Council in June 2018, a nomination at the GAMIQ 2020, a Félix – Best World Music Album at the ADISQ 2021 and winner of Best Album of the Year at the Latin Awards Canada 2021 for the album “Pescador de sueños”.
