BIOGRAPHY

With signature dreadlocks, this artist has Brazil tattooed onto his heart, his love for his culture clearly evident in the eight albums he’s released since 2003. Luiz Salgado sings, composes and embraces acoustic guitar like no other! Following in the footsteps of Gilberto Gil, his concept of music is a religion in itself, a practical tool and a way of life. The source of his inspiration? His people’s festive nature and their urge, above all else, to dance, twirl and sway to the rhythms. Samba and Bossa Nova coming up!

With natural charm and casually dressed, Salgado is perfectly at home performing on stage, while his voice reveals a universe and style touched by the natural richness of southeastern Brazil’s Minas Gerais region and the state’s capital, Belo Horizonte. Luiz Salgado feels no need to look further afield for he sees all the world’s beauty nestled in this corner of paradise, yet he is also mindful of prevailing social issues. A favourite at festivals, the artist also enjoys a solid reputation in Portugal.

Laid-back and barefoot, the guitarist soaks up the magnificent landscapes and translates their poetry, as in the sublime “Quanto mais meus óio chora, mais o mar quebra na praia” (the more my eyes cry, the more the sea crashes onto the beach), released in 2016. Things in life that seem beyond description, Salgado captures and reminds us how precious our environment is. Lauded by the Brazilian press, the star musician has achieved absolute mastery of his art. He bears all the hallmarks of those truly gifted people born to make music. Generous with his artistry, he collaborates with as many Brazilian artists as he can.
