Brimming with energy and inspired by the new wave of Afrobeat sweeping the planet, the young Burundian musician, now based in Montreal, had a great showing at the Syli d’Or, a crucial step that reveals the inner mojo of any artist on the rise. He composes and sings using his most trusted ally: rap music. Falling into music at a young age and always eager to impress his friends, Karagira Owen Berel learned the art of improvisation by performing on the street.
His first real adventure was to Rwanda in 2015, together with two other up-and-coming artists as part of the rap group HPB (Hit the Play Button). Then, through the course of his musical explorations, the desire to go solo was strengthened as various opportunities arose. His EP cycle, Game of songs, featuring fellow Burundian musicians Bushali, Kenny K-Shot and his loyal T-Point, earned him dedicated fans. Since 2020, Lil K’s music videos have been revealing the man he is becoming, caring of women, eyes open, like in the song “Daddy,” as well as his openness to the LGBTQ movement. A gentleman, all the way!
