BIOGRAPHY
Romantic lyrics, sensual dance… Bachata emerged in the Dominican Republic from a harmonious mix of popular Latin American bolero, African-influenced son, and troubadour-style singing, to become as popular as salsa and merengue. In fact, in 2019, bachata was inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. With his guitar (bachata’s chief instrument, which is beautifully accompanied by carefully measured percussion), Freddy Anthony passionately embodies this musical form, making him a leading figure on Montreal’s Latin-American music scene.
