BIOGRAPHY

This truly original, multifaceted Cameroonian artist sings in the Bassa language with a crystal-clear voice. Spiritual to the core and rooted in his era, Blick Bassy composes and sings on the waves of indie pop and Afro-soul.

Born in the village of Mintaba and now nearing fifty, the singer-songwriter has lost none of his youthfulness. Explorer of the depths as well as celestial heights, he has never stopped cultivating Africa’s ebony soil. It has been the raw material for his journey, starting from Youndé where, in 1996, he founded the band Macase, blending jazz and soul with Bantu rhythms. A prolific and dazzling guitarist and solo artist, he released four albums between 2006 and 2023.

Bassy is passionately committed to giving a voice to pressing issues such as the global climate crisis and free access to water, which for many peoples is like a mirage. On his brand-new album, InFiné, released this spring, Bassy has reached a new summit, fist in the air, pouring out his tender poetry that permeates space and time. Acclaimed by the likes of Les Inrocks and The Guardian, Blick Bassy enjoys a unique status, which bears the hallmark of his distinctions and inventiveness. To his fans, he is gifted with the power of planetary healing, like his song, One Love, an earthly elixir for all ills. He is also erudite and the co-leader of the Cameroon’s “memory commission,” or, Commission mémoire sur la guerre d’indépendance au Cameroun, committed to obtaining justice for his ancestors and their descendants.
