BIOGRAPHY
The rhythmic fusion of singer Bïa and Maracujá has it all, it is the musical expression of the motto “unity makes strength.” Together, the singer and band sow the irresistible Brazilian art of living and laid-back samba, its lifeblood. Bïa, a Chevalière of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres of France, is already well-known in her adoptive city of Montreal for her perfect rhythm and style, but Maracujá (which means “passion fruit”) deserves to have a spotlight shining on them as well. Also calling the city home, the quartet emerged from the stage at last year’s Montreal Jazz Festival to great acclaim, but they have been rolling since 2003, and released their well-received debut album in 2016. Packing a vast repertoire of bossa nova, funk, and the festive partido-alto rhythm —a samba essential—the group has its sights on upcoming performances across Québec for 2024-2025.
Fans of Brazilian music will soon be able to savour the delectable music of this Maracujá! An exquisite way to enjoy Bïa’s songs as well as the quartet’s authentic tunes—Bïa’s enchanting voice intermingles with that of singer Elie Haroun and the music of bassist André Faleiros, drummer Sacha Daoud and keyboardist John Sadowy to create a tropical elixir of life.
