BIOGRAPHY

In keeping with the proverb “In unity, there is strength,” this group of artists carry a single passport: whether from Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America, Europe or Canada, on stage they are at one in their desire to spread Guinea’s great culture, performing dizzyingly invigorating dances, chants rooted in Malinke legends and lively percussive rhythms. Firmly grounded in the customs of the Upper Guinea region, Bendaki takes on the power and mystery of Kawa, Konden and Tassaba masks, immersing their audiences in a truly authentic and unforgettable experience. In white feather headdresses, they perform dances that transport us into a world of hunters, proud village defenders and bearers of peace.

In 2012, Bendaki stunned Montrealers with a show that demonstrated their outstanding of multidisciplinary talent and skill. That year the group were awarded Bronze at the Syli d’Or de la musique du monde, which also served as a springboard to other performance opportunities within Quebec as well as at Toronto’s Muhtadi International Drumming Festival. Sensational performance artists ready to capture the imaginations the world over with a fully immersive Guinean experience. In full sweat and unbridled creativity!
