BIOGRAPHY
This supergroup of eight musicians whose motto is, “to travel is also to remember…” is an impressive achievement—cultural melting pot in true Montreal style!
Imagine Cuban, Cameroonian, then Malian and Québécois music, all sharing together in a whirlwind of sound. It’s a worthy example of “living together” and being enriched by other languages, salsa the African way.
No need to choose between one genre or another because Bantü Salsa takes you to wherever the festive groove is at. The collective is the brainchild of Montreal musician and well-known arranger, Just Wôan, who had long dreamed of creating a band that would incorporate a whole range of international music. Since 2019, Bantü Salsa has been doing just that, with kora’s strings, scintillating brass, exquisite Latin rhythms and supercharged percussion. Its members sow a strong message of unity through their virtuosity and resonant calls for peace, respect for others and cultural diversity. Rich in harmony, it is like a balm, an invitation to take your neighbour’s hand and dance to life, without a care. “Hakuna Matata” everyone!
