BIOGRAPHIE

Explosive acrobatics, choreographies displaying powerful athletic prowess, thundering percussions and rhythmic kora music, scene upon scene in rapid succession… their shows combine theatre, music, dance and circus arts. A superbly energizing showcase of West Africa’s immense talent.

Stunning is the adjective that perfectly describes this circus show, the likes of which you rarely get to see in the metropolis. More than a dozen artists marvel at their talent and prowess, taking young and old into different worlds. Combining circus arts with traditional African arts, Kalabanté helps and encourages marginalized youth in Guinea by building and running a circus school, financed with the profits from the shows. Kalabante Productions was created in 2007 by Yamoussa Bangoura, a multidisciplinary artist of Guinean origin. As director of the company, he develops his own shows which, for several years, have been attracting increasing attention and recognition from the circus arts community in Quebec and around the world. Kô Ryass, and other shows such as Kumbaya, Uno, Kira Nene and Afrique en Cirque have been created and presented all over the world. After several open air performances at different editions of the Festival International Nuits d’Afrique, this unique show retains its authenticity and continues to combine spectacular acrobatics, dance, live music and aerial acts. This show symbolizes the strength, agility and joie de vivre of African youth. Seven daring acrobats, accompanied by their musicians, perform their authentic choreographies to the frantic rhythm of the djembes of Guinea. To the sound of percussion, to the tempo of traditions, this large-scale show is the work of a singular artistic collaboration, showing the diversity of African arts. A show for the whole family that will awaken all your senses!
