Madou Sidiki Diabaté : Hommage à Toumani Diabaté
On February 14, Madou Sidiki Diabaté will pay a special tribute to his brother Toumani Diabaté with an exclusive concert at Gesù in Montreal. This concert will be a memorable evening for lovers of the Kora, a 21-string African harp. Toumani Diabaté was one of the greatest masters of this West African traditional instrument and a global ambassador of Mandinguo music. A true legend, he was able to fuse the musical tradition of his griot heritage with modern influences, thus marking the history of world music.
Born in Bamako in the 1980s, Mamadou Sidiki Diabaté (known as Madou) is a Malian griot from a prestigious lineage of musicians, including his parents Sidiki Diabaté and Mariam Kouyaté, as well as his brother Toumani Diabaté. At a young age, he began learning the Kora and Tamani, and in 1991, he opened for his parents at the Africolor festival in Paris, thus launching his career. Trained at the National Institute of Arts in Bamako (INA), Madou has collaborated with artists such as Salif Keita, Kandia Kouyaté, and Babani Kone. He is also known for founding his group Madou Sidiki & the Manding Griot Groove in 2013. In addition to his talents as a traditional Kora player, he is recognized as a pioneer of the Kora MIDI, opening new perspectives in West African music.
