“Perhaps the most striking aspect of these committed artists is the pleasure they derive from making music free of constraints, and sharing their art with everyone” (pieuvre.ca, 2022). We all know that jazz, in essence, form and its many variations, is the musical embodiment of freedom. Burning BRASs Band is a case in point. Formed in 2022, this feminist brass band, complete with drums, is on a mission to increase the presence of people identifying as women, nonbinary and/or queer in the local music scene. Covering popular tunes, from Lady Gaga to Stromae, the Burning BRASs Band unites people with its jazzy, funky and festive sound.
