Fourat Koyo is a singer of Moroccan origin who plays Guembri in the traditional style of Gnawa music. Born in Essaouira, the city of Moroccan gnawas, Fourat developed his art alongside the great Maalem Omar El Hayat with whom he performs on numerous stages in Morocco and France. Arriving in Quebec in 2017, he collaborated with several artists from the Montreal scene and began playing with Grooz, an Algerian artist whom he accompanied on festival stages. After several years of working together, Fourat developed his own project with the help of Grooz and sprinkled his Gnawa music playing with subtle jazz, funk and rock sounds. The release of his first album is scheduled for May 2023.
