Seydina is from the “Land of Teraanga,” born in Thiaroye, an historic town near Dakar that he left behind when he headed to Canada in 2014. The singer-songwriter uses his crystalline voice as a conduit for his mysteries and secrets, to awaken people’s consciousness on peace. Backed by his accomplice, guitarist Assane Seck, this former a mason and talibé expresses a lot of emotion and reminisces about family. His versatile vocal abilities allow him to reach the various registers of jazz, rap, folk and, of course, the Senegalese mbalax.
The release of his 2010 debut, Bay Sa War, with its strong Wolof flavour, opened the door to Montreal’s festivals, including the Montreal Jazz Festival and, naturally, Festival Nuits d’Afrique. He came into the sights of musician and producer Youssou N’Dour, and his record label Jolili, which led to the release of Seydina’s hit songs “Alal” and “Thiow li.” His popularity across Canada has grown steadily since 2019, when he released “Yaw dong” and “Suuf.” Be sure to check out his 2023 YouTube video with the reggae version of his song “Diamond”!
