Description of the concert:

Energized by the social movements in the Maghreb, and with a powerful desire to speak out, Gnawa Diffusion has taken a new form under its charismatic leader Amazigh Kateb. With new titles in their pockets (an album is being prepared for the autumn), this headline group on the French world music scene is coming to Montreal with its reggae-tinged rock, marked by Chaâbi and Gnawa influences.

Opening act: Syncop

“The sunniest disc in this autumn cultural season,” said the weekly paper Voir. Nearly four years after the phenomenal success of Gens du voyage, here again is a much-loved group in Montreal world music, carried along by its “sirocco d’érable.” Syncop’s recipe isn’t written anywhere, but it’s obvious that the mixture is holding! Reggae, raï, chaabi, hip-hop and, above all, a large pinch of successful integration. Contagious!
