His father was a traditional healer. He, meanwhile, cares for souls with his music. The founder and ex-leader of the group Amampondo presents a joyful repertory, rich in arrangements devised from ancestral instruments. Beyond a cappella and polyphonic song, behind the body paint and tribal costumes, we get hints here and there of hip hop and jazz. Illuminating!

Biography of the artist:
Dizu Plaatjies, the son of a traditional healer, grew up in Cape Town. He is the founder and former leader of the group Amampondo. He toured and recorded with them for 15 years, journeying across continents, festivals and stages. The group took part in the concert given for Nelson Mandela’s 70th birthday.
