Les Syli d'Or de la musique du Monde -En concert

For this inaugural edition, three distinguished Montreal groups have made the grade, each representing diversity and current global trends ignited by today’s growing world music scene: Taafé Fanga and its dynamic West African rhythms, Génération Mauricana and its traditional sounds from l'île Maurice, as well as Makaya Jazz, a group which blends jazz and classical styles next to Caribbean flavors. This album was recorded during the Syli d'Or Gala on the 3rd of May.

This compilation provides a glimpse of the immense talent which will surely transform these artists into revered stars of the future.  Before the sounds spread like wildfire, make it a point to catch these groups in performance this summer during Montreal’s 21st Festival International Nuits d’Afrique.

Taafé Fanga: For its high calibre use of kora, djembe, doundoun, and sabar; as for its authentic West African chants; and for its thunderous dance experience, Taafé Fanga has captured the SYLI D’OR DE LA MUSIQUE DU MONDE 2007.

 Génération Mauricana : Here’s to a new generation of SEGGAE and SOGA. With its captivating blend of reggaes, soccas and ravanes, Génération Mauricana has managed to beautifully remix the slave music of the Indian Ocean from the 18th century. The group’s talent and originality makes them a recipient of the coveted SYLI D’ARGENT DE LA MUSIQUE DU MONDE 2007. 

Makaya Jazz : Winners of the SYLI DE BRONZE DE LA MUSIQUE DU MONDE 2007, these musicians appropriately named after one of the highest mountain peaks in Haiti, have already performed with Émeline Michel, Beethova Obas, and Thierry Cham…. their blend of Afro-Antilles jazz is nothing short of SIZEABLE!
